Web Accessibility Home
Sometimes web developers add content to their web pages
that require another application or web browser plug-in to view. Things
such as PDF files, Word Documents, Flash, multimedia elements or Java
applets are all examples of this type of content.
There are two parts to the rule for applets and plug-ins:
- You must provide a link to download the application or plug-in needed
for the content. For instance, if you have a PDF file, you will need
to include a link to Adobe's site where Acrobat Reader can be downloaded.
- The required program or applet must be accessible itself. If you are
unsure if the required program is accessible, you will need to research
this using the vendor's web site.

Note: PowerPoint files are not currently accessible
using the PowerPoint viewer. Only the full version of PowerPoint will
be able to access the content using assistive technology. It is recommended
that an accessible HTML version of the PowerPoint presentation be provided
as well.
